Calis, Ineke

Ineke Calis' (born 1946)-2014) work has taken on an increasingly intrusive character over the course of her life. In 1968, at the beginning of her artistic career, she concentrated mainly on making abstract watercolors. As she developed further, changes occurred in her method of expression and more figurative elements appeared in her paintings. In 1971 she became fascinated with the technique of screen printing. In the years that followed, she became proficient in this technique and from that process arose works of art in a very personal style. Ineke Calis exhibited at home and abroad, including Japan. She passed away on January 10, 2014 in Rotterdam. Four copies of her entire graphic oevre (totaling 800 works) and her archive are currently in the possession of the Ineke Calis Foundation.
