Frans ERKELENS: (Bandung, Indonesia 1937)
Teacher at the Royal Art Academy, The Hague.
After secondary school, he studied at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague - Graphic Direction - which he completed cum laude. There he met teachers such as Paul Citroen and Gerard Kiljan - both with the "Bauhaus Ideas" with an emphasis on pure creativity and clear thoughts on a balance between non-figurative forms and proportions.
From there, he developed his specific style early on, which evolved via Magical and Fantastic Realism into Archaic Realism.
Of a poetic intimacy - not cold or menacing despite the bizarre or haunting imagination of a surreal world.
His works are in many private collections worldwide.
