Gerrit de Moree (1909-1981)
Great Linocut.
Gerrit de Morée was an artist who mastered many disciplines. He was a painter, draughtsman, sculptor and made glass mosaics. He studied in Tilburg, Den Bosch and Paris. He was the founder of the Breda Art Circle, which aimed to stimulate art life in Breda through exhibitions and lectures. In doing so, he was the founder of the St Joost Academy in Breda. Gerrit de Morée was one of the representatives of modern religious art. His work can still be seen in churches. De Morée left behind exceptional work that has received too little appreciation. During his stay in Paris, he got to know the modern art movements that inspired him.
