Bouke YLSTRA (Den Haag 1933-2009 Dordrecht) Bouke Ylstra (name variants: Bouke IJlstra, Bouke Johan IJlstra) was born on 13 March 1933 in The Hague and died on 17 August 2009 in Dordrecht. He was married to photographer José IJlstra. Bouke received his artistic training at the Academy of Visual Arts in Rotterdam. He was later appointed as a teacher at the Academy of Industrial Design Eindhoven, the Academy of Visual Arts in Rotterdam and the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. His students included Adri Frigge, Lies Jonkers, Joost Minnigh and Frans vanm Wageningen. Besides being a draughtsman, he was also a graphic artist, monumental artist, (wall) painter, sculptor, ceramist and mosaic maker. His artworks concentrated on figure representations. He became widely known for his intarsia. Mentioned in Scheen, Jacobs, Gaertman / IJlstra. Great Etching. Comes from the collection of the municipality of The Hague, The Netherlands.
