KAREL HALOUN (1951) KAREL HALOUN (born 1951) studied at the Secondary Vocational School of Art (1967–1971) and the University of Applied Arts (1972–1978). He mainly deals with graphic design, poster creation, CD covers and logotypes. He is also engaged in book editing (Czech writer, Mladá fronta, Lidové nakladatelství, Lidové noviny Nakladatelství, Paseka, Svoboda, Kentaur, Maťa, Argo, Volvox Globator, Petrov, Havran, Týnská literární kávárna and Votobia). He is the author of illustrations (1985 – Prize for illustration for an artist under 35), collages, drawings, prints and objects, co-author of the interior of the Prague restaurant Kuře v hodinkyk, and participated in the decoration of the Prague Junior club Na chmelnici. He worked on the covers of music carriers for samizdata edition + - sound, Panton, Supraphon, Sony Music Bonton, Monitor EMI, BMG, Polygram, Indies, Anne rec., Black Point, Lotos, Wolf rec. and Globus International. He exhibited at home and abroad. He is a member of TypoDesignClub and a non-playing member of the groups Jasná páka and Hudba Praha. In Kritická Přílož RR and Revolver Revui he published critically oriented texts. E.g. in No. 66/2007 accompanying text about Tomáš Brousil's typographical project, called Funeral Notice. Together with Luďek Kubík, he was presented in the section From graphic workshops in Revolver Revui No. 53/2003. He also contributed, for example, a text about the work of Stefan Sagmeister in No. 58/2005, in No. 59/2005 about the exhibition of Vojtěch Preissig, in No. 62/2006 about the exhibition The Pope smoked dope, in No. 64/2006 an interview with him is printed, in No. 65/2006 a treatise on the work of the artist Catherina Zaská, in No. 66/2006 on the work of Tomáš Brousil and in No. 69/2007 a review of exhibitions by Neo Rauch and Veronika Richterová and Michal Cihlára Great Lithograph.
