Frans NICOLAÏ (Domburg 1937 - 2012)
Frans Nicolaï grew up on the coast of Zeeland. The sea has always attracted him, as in The Hague where he trained at the (Royal) Academe voor Beeldende Kunsten, and Friesland where he moves to with his wife. Early in his career, he worked in the style of the Hague School and was inspired by Co Westerik. After a burnout, a shift took place, his abstract expressive landscapes no longer featured people. Nicolaï painted in this style until the last years of his life.
Exhibited both solo and in groups.
His work is represented in several national and international collections of companies, institutions, municipalities and private individuals.
In recent years, there has been growing interest in his art in which he expresses himself with, among other things, clear lyrical and philosophical elements and influences.
Comes from the collection of the municipality of The Hague, The Netherlands.
