Michel CÁRDENAS (Espinal 1934 - Amsterdam 2015) Handsigned, numered and dated. Education: Michel Cardena received his education at the Escuela de Bellas Artes Bogota. Cardena taught for 20 years at the AKI Enschede and the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, among others. In 1986, he decided to return to his original artistic discipline: painting. Michel Cardena came to the Netherlands from Colombia in 1962. The Netherlands was attractive for artists at that time. In 1964 - 1964 Cardena participated in the exhibition Pop Art and New Realism which traveled via Rotterdam, The Hague to all the major museums in Brussels, Vienna and Berlin. The Netherlands was not yet fully accustomed to the pop art influences, during the exhibition "Momentum No. 5 at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam 1989" Wim Beeren wrote the following. "The Netherlands had hardly heard of Pop Art, New Realism or Duchamp when Michel Cardena entered our country from Colombia, with an enormous baggage of knowledge about the new developments in art. In 1962".
