Born in Rotterdam 1953, received her training in styling at the Bijenkorf department store. After several years of self-employment in Germany for some major fashion brands, combined with working in the Netherlands as a styling teacher, she started a decoration studio in 1990. Here, huge sculptures and paintings are designed and made, inspired by art and culture. Painting shows are also held with corporate groups as part of a congress, workshop or teambuilding meeting. In addition to these activities, Loes has taken up painting matter art. With a few brushstrokes, the abstract base is a reality. From there, contours, lines, structure and colour take over. Using pieces of fabric or paper, pigments and medium, Loes chooses a composition on canvas in several layers. Her canvases acquire a mysterious depth through the interplay between foreground and background. Loes paints with heart and soul and loves to convey this to others. Loes paints purely from her feelings. When she is at work, she thinks of nothing else and all daily worries seem miles away. A major source of inspiration is nature in all its facets, but the transience of each part of it, combined with the infinity of the whole, gives her a special sensation. The weathered pieces of wreckage washing up on the beach, the colour of the sky reflected by seawater, the asphalt almost palpable under the rain puddles. Matter, tarnished by time, eroded and half-decayed but undoubtedly with a certain destiny, this provides her with tremendous food for thought. The ephemeral appeals to her, everything comes and goes again, memory remains, a memory that is not tangible but feels like a dream. This is also reflected in her way of painting, after the base layer, the game of applying and removing various materials begins. During this process, the coincidental play of lines and stains is an important contribution; Loes is no longer the sole architect of her work. Coincidence and her interpretation of it, fulfil and important role. If language can describe what images show, we will all be publishers.
