Josep Maria Codina is an abstract Spanish painter, born in 1958. Since his childhood years, Josep Maria Codina has always had a pencil or a brush in his hand. His first exhibition took place in 1985 in Mataro, his homeland. Often described as an abstract painter, Josep Maria Codina likes to believe that his art work is well anchored and close to reality, attached to a specific context. He considers his art to be figurative. Josep Maria Codina is interested by all kinds of art, his influences range from primitive anonymous to great masters of contemporary art, using different artistic languages and techniques. In his work, the main focus is human skin, an element which envelopes, isolates and protects the human beings around him. Josep Maria Codina is also convinced that muses exist and therefore help his work. When he displays his work, he tries to trigger a dialogue with the visitor, and why not even disturb him a little. Josep Maria Codina has exhibited many times in Spain and France.
