Gouache. Handsigned an dated. Comes from the collection of the municipality of The Hague, The Netherlands. Bert BRUIJN (The Hague 1938) Painter, Draughtsman From 1956 to 1962, he trained at the Royal Academy of Visual Arts in The Hague, department of "illustration". His paintings are difficult to categorise. His 'drawing' is rendered in a precise, sharp line. He avoids every detail so that the figurative drawing is placed in a space of fading colours. His gouaches often include architectural constructions of interiors with people. Their depictions have something unfinished because of the lively and spontaneous brushstrokes. This allows the viewer to fantasise further. There are no hard lines or forced compartments in the fragmentary images. The impressionistic use of paint evokes the essence of light in the contrasting colours. The atmosphere of the interior is emphasised in a romantic way.
