Biography of Antoon Markus:
Although he joined the artist association Artibus Sacrum in his hometown of Arhem, Antoo Markus was aloner, wandering through the Netherlands, France an Belgium intil he settled in 1924 at the Veluwezoom in Wolfheze. His work is closely related to that of the French Barbizon painters, whom he greatly admired. He is best known for his many forest landscapes and river views with low horizons and beautifully contructed skies. In his Veluwe period, the varied landscape around Oosterbeekl and the vilage itself were his main source of inspiration. Many still existing places and farms can be pointed out his work, altrough knowledge about them has often been lost.
