Ger Stallenberg was born in Maastricht in 1959. From 1974 to 1979, he studied at the Academie voor beeldende vorming in Tilburg. Since 1997, Het Ware Huis in Lage Mierde has been his home base. Here he has his studio and gallery where, in addition to his own paintings, he also has an extensive sales collection of Art Nouveau and Art Deco which is also a great source of inspiration for his own work. He is inspired by symbolism and Art Nouveau art from around 1900. In that art, you detect a supernatural dimension, and a great love of nature. A certain stylisation, colour palette and mood lighting unify everything. In a contemporary way, all this is also reflected in his paintings. However, he stays so close to reality that fantasy worlds are avoided. The wonder of nature and life is always the subject of his paintings. With an eye for detail and an elaborate layer-over-layer technique, Ger Stallenberg tries to evoke an image that reflects the mystery of existence. The more you look the more you see. Thus, in his paintings, he manages to transform everyday things into visual poetry. With this poetry of light and colour, he manages to add value to the seemingly realistic scene. In his work, he tries to make the everyday refer to the eternal. A flower showing off in the foreground stands in a landscape that defies the ages. The interaction of culture with nature is a frequent theme in Ger Stallenberg's work. An interaction that shows opposites, but also complements and surprising similarities. The painter calls this fact a harmony of contrasts! Realism and fantasy go hand in hand. The work offers the viewer every opportunity to dream away in order to evoke an atmosphere of their own. The particularly refined fabric expression and the bright use of colour give Ger Stallenberg's work an enormous eloquence that can be called timeless.
