JAN TOOROP (1858-1928)
Dutch painter Jan Toorop is considered one of the forerunners of the movement of Art Nouveau. He also worked in the style of symbolism. The artist received his training in Amsterdam and Brussels. In 1885 he became a member of the Belgian Les Vingt, which had been founded by James Ensor, among others. Artists such as Paul Signac and Auguste Rodin were also members of this progressive group of artists.
