Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) was a Spanish artist and one of the most influential figures in art history, known for his role in the development of Cubism. His work, which spanned painting, sculpture, ceramics and printmaking, evolved constantly, experimenting in different styles and techniques.
This lithograph by Pablo Picasso, dated December 5, 1950 and numbered No. VII, is part of the folder Le Visage de la Paix (The Face of Peace), a series of 29 lithographs each featuring a poem by Paul Eluard. The lithograph shows an abstraction of a face, possibly a female profile, from which a dove – the global symbol of peace – rises. The focus is on the powerful image of the dove exuding joy and hope, and at the same time the serene and impassive facial expression of the portrait.
