The artist was born on 12 July 1929 in The Hague. He lived and worked in The Hague, where he died on 28 November 1983. He was a pupil of the Vrije Academie for some time, but was otherwise self-taught. Goudzwaard painted in a non-figurative style with a surreal accent. He was a member of Pulchri Studio in The Hague and the B.B.K. in Amsterdam. In Sas van Gent, there is the Hopster van Goudzwaard Museum, where the work of the eccentric Hague artist Pieter van Goudzwaard is central.
Pieter van Goudzwaard exhibited as much as possible, e.g. in Pulchri Studio (where he was also a member), The Hague Salon, De Mensa in Delft, 't Venster in Rotterdam, Bodega De Posthoorn and the Pier in Scheveningen. Pieter van Goudzwaard travelled to Belgium, France, Canada and America. His oeuvre is non-figurative with a surreal accent. Posthumously, there was an exhibition in Pulchri Studio and in Hotel Des Indes in the 1980s.
