Famous Duch painter.
Willem Gerard Hofker (The Hague, 2 May 1902 - Amsterdam, 30 April 1981) was a Dutch artist; he was an etcher, graphic artist, painter and drawer.
Willem Hofker was known for his Balinese landscapes and images of Balinese dancers. He also produced many portraits, still lifes, landscapes and pictures of horses. He was a student at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam and won the Cohen Gosschalk Prize in 1922.
In 1936, he and his wife, the artist Maria Hofker-Rueter, left for the Dutch East Indies and ended up in Bali, where much of his work was created. Because of the Japanese occupation, the couple ended up in a camp. After the Japanese defeat, they returned to the Netherlands in 1946 and settled in Amsterdam.
