Hand Signed, dated and numbered by the Artist. Completely framed. Has a small scratch in the work, barely perceptible to the naked eye. Ger Siks - 1942 Schilder, tekenaar, pastellist, pentekenaar, aquarellist, etser, lithograaf, conceptueel kunstenaar, docent aan academie Minerva. Fuji Art Association was a group of figurative artists of a very high class - the virtuoso Matthijs Röling, who tried to keep classical art alive and who hated Mondriaan; the quick, sharp, intelligent and humorous Ger Siks, who, with a diamond in a tooth eternal sunglasses and mythical stories, looked like a dangerous pimp, but was the nicest man in Groningen (and worked with colored pencil) and the equally intelligent Wout Muller who painted more sensually than anyone else, and who could put his teacher Melle three times in his inside pocket. The three of them formed the core of the club for the outside world. Around them, to begin with, were the women, who should certainly not be underestimated - Clary Mastenbroek, painting wife of Wout Muller, Trudy Kramer, painting girlfriend of Ger Siks and Fritzi Harmsen van Beek, poet and extravagant muse of Matthijs Röling. The company was joined by poets Jean Pierre Rawie and C.O. Jellema. The remarkable thing about this company was that it was unprecedentedly successful in the 1980s - in Hielke de Vries' Galerie Wiek XX, for example, exhibitions were completely sold out, which was completely unique for that time. Ger Siks was perhaps the only true Groningen artist in the movement also known as the Northern Realists. The Fuji Art Association, of which he formed the core, together with Wout Muller and Matthijs Röling, was also the centrifugal force of the whole movement, and that was in large part due to the intelligence, humor and unifying powers of Ger Siks. Siks' art was also the least conspicuous of the club's members, for he produced mainly small-scale colored pencil drawings. You had to stand right on top of them, as it were, and be prepared to make a complete fathom of those drawings, for Siks is not only an ingenious storyteller, he also turns his drawings into intelligent cryptograms full of modern symbolism. He prefers not to explain or help the viewer on his way. At best, you get a title with the drawing, and otherwise you're on your own.
