Marius Johannes JANSSEN werd geboren in Den Haag op 4 juli 1885 en is overleden in Rotterdam op 11 december 1957.
Hij was schilder, fotograaf en (vooral) etser. Na omzwervingen in Bergen op Zoom, Arnhem, Utrecht werkte hij vanaf 1926 in Hillegersberg (1935 Rotterdam). Hij staat bekend om zijn stadsgezichten door het gehele land, waarin met name kerktorens een dominante rol spelen.
