Salomon Leonardus Verveer (1813–1876) was a prominent 19th-century Dutch painter from The Hague, known for his romantic yet realistic depictions of Dutch village life, harbors, and coastal landscapes. He studied at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague under Bartholomeus van Hove and became one of the first Jewish artists in the Netherlands to gain widespread recognition. Verveer's works are characterized by atmospheric light, detailed brushwork, and subjects such as dune villages, boats, and fishermen. He exhibited internationally, received honors including the Order of Leopold and the Order of the Netherlands Lion, and his paintings are held in major Dutch museums like the Rijksmuseum and Kunstmuseum Den Haag. His legacy remains strong as a master of Dutch Romantic realism.
