Baas, Geert

Geert Baas brings together the painting, the painted drawing and the photo or found material as clearly and directly as possible. Not by mixing these techniques, but by a presentation as a diptych or triptych. To him that is the ideal form. To assemble such a mixed work, he waits for the exact right moment when everything coincides. Coincidence plays a major role in this. An important element in his work is the line drawing that is applied directly to the canvas with the tube mouth; that can be a tag or a sign that evokes a strong calligraphic image. The photos and the scans that Baas uses in such a mixed work have a snapshot-like quality.
